On March 1st, 2024, updated guidance for COVID-19 and other respiratory diseases was been released. This guidance does not apply to healthcare settings and those working in these settings.
Healthcare Settings
The guidance has not changed for healthcare settings. Please review the following resources for additional information.
Schools
The NYSED recommends that schools follow the updated NYSDOH recommendations and CDC Respiratory Guidance for COVID-19 prevention and to work with their local health departments if local cases are high.
The CDC is working with education partners to develop infection prevention and control guidance for schools for a number of pathogens that can affect schools (e.g., norovirus, flu, COVID-19). This guidance is anticipated for release prior to the 2024-2025 school year. More information is available on the CDC website.
General Public
- Individuals should stay home and away from others, including those they live with who are not sick, if they have respiratory symptoms not explained by another cause.
- Symptoms can include: fever, chills, fatigue, cough, runny nose, and headache
- Individuals can go back to normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, both of the following are true:
- Symptoms are getting better overall, and
- They no longer have a fever without the use of fever-reducing medications.
- When returning to normal activities, individuals should take added precautions for the next 5 days as they may be able to still spread the virus.
- These include: masking, physical distancing, testing, taking steps for cleaner air and hygiene.
