WIC provides nutrition counseling, health education, nutritious foods, breastfeeding support, and information and referrals. Participants receive monthly benefits to purchase nutritious foods such as milk, cheese, eggs, cereal, fruit, vegetables, fruit juice, whole grain bread, whole grain tortillas or brown rice, peanut butter, dried beans or canned beans, infant formula, infant cereal, and baby food.
Participants learn how to choose healthy foods and prepare healthy meals and get help with breastfeeding. You also get referrals to other services you may need such as prenatal and postpartum care, childcare, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and family planning.
