Go Green with TOR!
Rockland County government is working every day to practice green living. Click the links below to learn about using TOR buses and other "green" methods of transportation such as carpooling and biking.
- Go GREEN on our green & whiteTOR buses when heading out to appointments or shopping, or if you are going to school, work or play. Produce fewer carbon emissions and spend less money while enjoying a comfortable ride that costs less than half a gallon of gas.
- Ride the bus to parks and farmers markets. Our brochure has information on Rockland County parks and farmers markets accessible by bus; bus routes served; hours; locations; healthy tips, and more.
- Learn about carpools and vanpools, ride-sharing programs where two or more people in a car, or 7-15 people in a van, travel to and from work together..
- Go to www.rocklandbike.org and get into biking. Use natural energy instead of carbon.
Other bike-on-board services in Rockland
- Bicycles can be brought on most off-peak NJ Transit trains serving Nanuet, Pearl River, Sloatsburg, Spring Valley and Suffern train stations.
- The Hudson Link bus service between Rockland and Westchester Counties provides bike racks on the front of each of its buses.
- Bicycles can also be brought on the NY Waterway Haverstraw-Ossining ferry.
Bike-on-Bus Program
The Rockland County Department of Public Transportation is proud to join the growing number of transit systems across the country that have implemented bike-on-bus programs to help increase regional mobility while reducing air pollution.
Rockland County Bike-on-Bus Rules for TOR:
- No special permit or extra charge is required for this service.
- The program operates on a "first-come, first served" basis.
- Be ready to load your bike by removing all detachable accessories from your bike before the bus arrives.
- Bikes are not allowed to be brought onboard into the passenger compartment.
- Bicycles are transported at the owner's risk. Neither Rockland County nor its bus operator are responsible for damage, theft or loss of bicycles.
- Remember to take your bicycle with you when you get off the bus!

Regional bike-on-board transit services
Information on using bicycles and transit together. Search their database of places where you can take a bicycle on a bus, train or airplane.
Bikes are allowed on most off peak trains. Note that an MTA bike permit is required.
