Fraud & How to Report It
The Rockland County Department of Social Services is committed to ensuring that only those residents eligible for assistance and services receive them. We have partnered with the Rockland County District Attorney's Office to stop all types of Welfare Fraud and have established this webpage so community members, such as yourself, can report suspected fraud.
What is Welfare Fraud?
Welfare fraud is when an applicant/recipient of social services benefits willfully provides the Department of Social Services with false or incomplete information, or omits important information, to receive or retain services which they otherwise would not be legally entitled to. Depending on the eligibility program, the following could constitute welfare fraud:
- Unreported Income (Earned or Unearned)
- Unreported Assets or Resources (properties, money management accounts, businesses, etc.)
- Unreported Changes in Household Composition
- Residency Changes
- SNAP Trafficking (Selling EBT cards or benefits)
- Falsified Shelter Verification Forms
- Submittal of Other Falsified Documents for the Purpose of Receiving Benefits
