Veterans Cemeteries
The Gary Onderdonk Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Rockland Community College and the Frederick W Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Brick Church Road are owned and operated by the County of Rockland for the burial of eligible Rockland County veterans, their spouses and eligible dependents. Both cemeteries are open daily from dawn until dusk. We are currently not accepting any new pre-reservations for plots. Families must provide proof of Rockland County residence and proof of veteran status prior to the burial.
All new burials are at Loescher Cemetery under the general supervision of the Rockland County Veterans Service Agency. Your funeral director is able to handle all necessary approvals with the county as well as requesting military honors and applying for a military marker. If you wish to set up an urn burial without using a funeral home, please contact our office for further instructions.
To get a plot number for any grave at one of our cemeteries, see the Rockland County Clerk's Office digital records search.
- Under "Account sign-in" click "sign in as guest"
- Under "index type" on the search page, scroll down to "veterans cemeteries" and then select either Loescher or Onderdonk Cemetery
- Type in the person's first and last names and click the search button
Military records such as a DD214 are required for burial, military honors, military headstone and burial flag. If you cannot locate the veteran's records, an emergency request can be sent to the National Archives.
If you need assistance with burials, plot locations, grave markers, or burial and survivor benefits, please email Jennifer Smith, Veterans Burial Coordinator at the Rockland County Veterans Service Agency: smithj@co.rockland.ny.us
