How to Apply for ADA TRIPS Service

A prospective applicant may download and print the ADA TRIPS Application or call or visit the Rockland County Transit Information Center to request one:

The application is printed in 16-point type. The application form also is available in other formats such as large print, Braille or audiotape upon request.

Medical Verification

After the applicant has completed Parts 1-6 of the application, a medical, certified or licensed appropriate professional must complete and sign the Medical Verification Section of the application (a list of qualified professionals who may provide verification is outlined on the application). It is important that all sections of the application are completed. If any sections are left blank, the form will be returned to the applicant.

Applicants may submit completed application forms together with a full-face, (1" by 1.5") recent headshot photograph so that an ADA TRIPS photo ID card can be made and issued (if the applicant is deemed eligible). Digital photographs are preferred and may be emailed to Romany@co.rockland.ny.us. Alternatively, applicants may come to the Rockland County Department of Public Transportation to have a photo taken.

Processing

Completed applications will be processed within 21 days of receipt. Please note that in some instances, we may not be able to determine eligibility without further information. In this case, we may schedule an appointment for an in-person interview to allow us to better understand an applicant's functional abilities and transportation needs. Transportation to the interview and costs associated with the interview will be covered by RCDPT.

In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), the Rockland County Department of Public Transportation (RCDPT) provides "ADA TRIPS" shared-ride paratransit bus service to people with a disability who cannot use standard, fixed-route municipal bus service in Rockland County and who are traveling in an area served by fixed-route municipal buses. The fixed-route municipal bus services in Rockland are Transport of Rockland (TOR), Hudson Link and Clarkstown Mini-Trans (CMT). Use of ADA TRIPS paratransit bus service is intended only for travel when an individual is unable to use standard, fixed-route buses. The application process is intended to determine when and under what circumstances the applicant can use standard, fixed-route buses and when ADA TRIPS service is required.

Information about your disability that you provide in the application will be kept strictly confidential.

If an applicant has been found eligible for ADA TRIPS service, that person will receive a packet of materials providing information on how to make reservations, the rights and responsibilities of riders, how to make complaints and other important information. Material is also available in large print, and can be provided in another format, such as audiotape, if needed.

If it is determined that an applicant is able to use fixed-route bus service in all circumstances and, therefore, is not eligible for ADA TRIPS service, we notify applicants in writing of the exact reasons for this determination. An opportunity to appeal the eligibility decision in person is also provided.
